Alibaba targets Western customers with its new fast fashion app

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has launched allyLikes, a new fast fashion platform for the American and European markets. It is also a direct competitor of Shein, the Chinese fashion webshop that stormed the West.

Tested model

The two models have striking similarities. Shein focuses on young customers outside of China and offers new items at low prices each week. The fashion retailer, sometimes referred to as the "TikTok of e-commerce", has become the most downloaded shopping app in the United States this year.

Alibaba cible les clients occidentaux avec sa nouvelle application fast fashion

AllyLikes sells everything from fancy jewelry to ready-to-wear. You can even find a leather jacket for less than 30 euros. The company ships its products to Europe, the United States and Canada. The application is available in several European languages, including Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. But like other fast fashion players, allyLikes' great asset is its responsiveness to new styles and trends. More than 500 new articles are added to the platform every week, writes FashionUnited. To promote the application, the company relies mainly on influencers.

5,000 downloads

For now, allyLikes is still in its infancy. According to sensor Tower data, the app has been downloaded less than 5,000 times worldwide since September. During the same period, Shein recorded about five million downloads and Alibaba two million.
