“Col statement”: this is THE winter fashion trend that many did not see coming
Paria of fashion for many years, the Peter Pan, baroque and turned-down collars are beginning a new reign, however, by upgrading the outfits of fashion experts. A rise in power for this historic accessory which nevertheless symbolized refinement during the Renaissance, and in particular in the first half of the 16th century, when it made its first notable appearance.
At its beginnings ? This piece of fabric placed on the neckline surrounding the neck, had gathered edges in the second half of the century, to take the form of a turn-down collar, otherwise known as a reverse collar. His sworn enemy? The tie, to which the collar was forced to give way around 1660.
Abandoned in favor of multiple accessories, the wide collar has lost none of its luster, and now upgrades the outfits of fashionistas accustomed to running the streets of style. And this year, the “XXL collar” trend is relaunched by none other than the English Alexa Chung, the entrepreneur Yoyo Cao, or even the Scandinavian Emili Sindlev and many other of their colleagues. And here is how they in turn appropriate the lace collar.
Lace collar: the ultra-fashionable detail that will upgrade our most beautiful winter outfits
Never again out of fashion, the lace collar or ruff - the very emblem of Louis XIV - is beginning to invade the most fashionable boutiques of our generation. From the Parisian brands Maje and Sandro, via the Nordic label Ganni, but also Zara and Mango, the baroque collar adorned with frills is once again becoming legion. The idea that we steal from fashionistas? Wear this imposing accessory over a traditional shirt, or a sweater as we are talking about this winter. In first place? The sailor sweater, the knit cardigan, the sweater dress and the sleeveless knit, whose aesthetic acclimatizes perfectly with the collar of XXL garments.
Then, two clans divide fashion journalists, stylists and social media pros. On the one hand, those who wish to carve out a BCBG look combine their lace collar with pleated trousers, a trench coat, babies with heels or ballet flats and that's it.
On the other hand, followers of an assumed rock style can count on the lace collar to contrast with their daring look. Whether it's high-waisted jeans, (imitation) leather pants, a black pencil skirt, and combat boots... All characterful clothes and accessories match perfectly with the lace collar. Now it's up to you to choose which camp you want to go to.
