With its 400 million users worldwide, Pinterest has been able to identify, thanks to their research, 175 emerging trends that could well mark the year 2022.
"This year, our Pinterest Predicts report is more comprehensive than ever. We've identified over 175 different trends we think will emerge in 2022. We've also collaborated with creators around the world to bring these ideas to life and inspire users to try them. Whether you're looking for a bold new recipe or ideas to boost your style, there's a trend for everyone in this year's report," said Larkin Brown, Head of Core Research at Pinterest.
Original and retro
In beauty, eyelids, teeth and even the skin will be adorned with jewelry in 2022. The platform has observed a 145% increase in searches for unique and 100% microdermal piercing for "crystal eye makeup". Dental jewelry continues to seduce with an 85% increase in searches. Finally, the rhinestone pedicure is emerging as the upcoming trend with an increase of more than 150% in searches on Pinterest.
An originality that can also be found on the nails or in the hair. Nail art galaxy imposes itself with a 115% increase in searches. For 2022, it will be better to bet on cuts that are out of the ordinary. The mullet cut is making a comeback with a 190% increase in searches. The natural is also highlighted. Natural short haircuts saw their searches increase by 185%.
In fashion, pearls will dress women and men. While "pearl wedding decorations" saw a 185% increase in searches, those for men's pearl necklaces saw a sevenfold increase on the platform.
With a year filled with gloomy news, the color captured the attention of users with a 140% increase in electric blue outfits, the goth style made a shifting inroads between goth pajamas (+185%) and baby clothes (+120%)!
If originality will be in order, the traditional checkerboard pattern will be making a comeback everywhere, from fingernails (+165% of searches) to the checkerboard floor, whose searches have been multiplied by five. Results that show the interest of the young generation for retro trends.
Well-being at home and for everyone!
Well-being at home has never been so important after spending so much time at home. Post-lockdown trends are still on the rise. On Pinterest, many users searched for Aphrodite-style wallpaper ideas (+180%), while plants continue to be at the center of Internet users' passions with a 175% increase in searches for "garden gardens". 'staircase' and three times more searches for the 'floral ceiling'.
Internet users continue to improve their interiors. Each space in the home then becomes a source of inspiration. Searches for luxury laundry room ideas have increased elevenfold. And the interior is also optimized for our four-legged friends. Searches for “luxury dog room” increased by 115% while the “catify your home” trend saw a four-fold increase in searches on the platform.
Well-being also involves new spiritualities. The question "How to protect your energy" increased by 60% in searches while the question "How to raise your vibration" jumped by 145%. The aura color caught the attention of users on Pinterest who increased searches on the platform by 36 times.
Money matters, still very present on social networks such as on TikTok, are largely part of the trends of 2022 between investment advice (+195%) and financial education (+155%).
The taste for travel
While travel had to be limited in 2021, the taste for adventure has not diminished. Searches for all-inclusive resorts have doubled. But Internet users have mainly escaped thanks to the kitchen. Traditional Norwegian recipes have seen their searches increase by 120%. Users also traveled to the Philippines with "authentic recipes" (+35%) and to Russia with "traditional cuisine" whose searches were multiplied by three. Africa is also a source of culinary trends with "traditional South African recipes" (+150%) and "traditional Arabic cuisine" whose searches have doubled.
