Mark your calendars!

He is an internationally renowned decorator, she is a French model who became the muse of one of the greatest couturiers of all time, Yves Saint Laurent. Each on their side multiplies projects, in decoration and fashion, respectively, for several decades. François Catroux has notably been the decorator of big names - and connoisseurs - such as Marie-Hélène and Guy de Rothschild, Hélène Rochas, or Princess Firyal of Jordan, to name a few, mixing with ease old pieces and furniture contemporary.

The taste and style of François Catroux are now the subject of an exceptional auction, led by Sotheby's. It is more exactly a whole collection from their residence on the Côte d'Azur, "remained confidential and unpublished until today", as the auction house points out. The opportunity for collectors to access lots with diverse and varied inspirations and influences, between contemporary furniture, designer pieces, works from Asia and Africa, and even some creations by François Catroux himself.

"It is a privilege for us to unveil François Catroux's latest, very personal achievement. A unique place that honors this talented man. The great signatures of contemporary design and art respond to old pieces that the decorator will have preserved all his life. A place he loved, which resembled him", underlines Florent Jeanniard, co-director of the design world and vice-president of Sotheby's France.

Among the key pieces from the Maeterlinck Palace are works by contemporary designers such as Ron Arad, Ingo Maurer, Martin Szekely, or Serge Manzon, and creations by 20th century artists, including Luis Tomasello, Lucio Fontana, Tom Wesselmann, Christian Bérard or Jean Cocteau. The whole will be accompanied by exceptional pieces such as a Chinese screen with twelve panels in Coromandel lacquer.

The auction will be held in Paris on February 24, 2022.
