Driving gloves: Why wear them in the car?

Driving gloves: Why wear them in the car?

Although they may seem forgotten, they continue to be a 'must have' for the most selective drivers. Gloves are much more than just an accessory when it comes to sitting behind the wheel. In fact, when the automobile industry took its first steps and the first units began to roll, these garments were essential to protect the hands of drivers from the fumes emitted by vehicles at very high temperatures. Not in vain, the space in front of the co-pilot's seat is called precisely… the glove box.

Fashionable driving gloves

Today, gloves are still essential in the glove box of any ten-person driver, fortunately for different reasons. It's no longer about protecting hands from burns, but about providing a much more enjoyable driving experience. And several reasons can be listed. The first seems obvious: it considerably improves the grip of the steering wheel. It's not just about grip - especially when dealing with thin leather or wood - but also about avoiding other fairly common situations, such as hands slipping from sweat during a long trip or on a hot day or in tight corners.

One of the vehicle parts that looks the worst when worn out is the steering wheel. Wearing gloves also helps prevent wear and tear. Especially if they are made of good quality materials. This also applies to the shift knob.

Another advantage of gloves, although it seems obvious that they will protect you from the cold in winter… but you will also be happy to wear them in summer. Because who hasn't taken their hands off the steering wheel or the gear knob quickly because of the heat it gets after taking the car after a hot summer day? However, for the summer, you can opt for a lighter pair.

And, of course, elegance. And that's… how can you not feel like a gentleman, in true Drive Ryan Gosling style, with a good pair? We visited the most luxurious fashion and automotive brands to present their most exclusive proposals….

Ferrari

In his shop there are several models, but without doubt, the most exclusive -mainly, for its price: 230 euros- is made of lambskin and microfiber. It bears the Made in Italy seal and is sewn by hand. It also has a cashmere lining and padded reinforcements on the palms and thumbs.

As a curiosity, the finish allows them to be used even when using touch screens. As it could not be otherwise, they come in a red cover with the scuderia logo.

The Outlierman

This accessories store for the “gentleman driver”, as they define themselves, offers an elegant collection of driving gloves.

Called The Top Gear, it has four models in different colors, but with similar characteristics: they are made of deerskin, in Italy, and with a classic style. The price is 220 euros.

Lamborghini

In the store of the Italian car manufacturer, we found this pair of gloves. Like all products of the Lambo brand, it is made in Italy and in an artisanal way. On this occasion, it is in deerskin, lined with cashmere.

Inspired by the world of racing cars, it also offers the possibility of using a touch screen without having to remove them. They cost 270 euros and are available in black and yellow (as in the image) or completely black.

Christophe Feniwck

The gala accessories company dedicated to drivers has in its catalog the most elegant, but also the most expensive driving gloves. There are models for winter and summer and for cars and motorcycles.

The Le Mans Caimán model stands out from all. It is made of genuine alligator and nappa leather, with a cashmere inner glove, a nickel button with the phoenix, the house seal, and handmade details. Its price is 795 euros.

Bentley Motors

This car manufacturer offers several models of gloves in its shop. In particular, the one in the picture is inspired by the interior of the Continental GT.

It is made of black leather and lined with cashmere. On the outside, it is adorned with a diamond cork pattern, which sets it apart from the rest. Its price is around 140 euros.
