Instagram unveils the first edition of its trend report, a study conducted on subjects that will interest generation Z in 2022.

A report that lists the flagship themes of generation Z

With its trend report, Instagram wishes to draw up a table of flagship themes for generation Z in 2022.This report is based on a survey carried out by Ypulse, in October 2021, among 1,200 social media users, aged 13 to 24, in the United States.

10 essential subjects in 2022 for generation Z

The trend report of Instagram thus highlights 10 flagship themes which will make the year 2022 on the social network.

1.Fashion and beauty

According to the report, 50 % of adolescents and young adults will bet on alternative fashion in 2022, with styles such as Dark Academia, Goblincore or a nostalgic dress style.On the beauty side, 1 young adults in 3 is interested in the composition of beauty and makeup products.They will favor creams with natural composition, vegan makeup and will use fewer products in general for their beauty routine.

2.Shopping

In 2022, generation Z expected new online shopping experiences, and focuses on more responsible consumption.Thus, 27 % of adolescents and young adults envisage in-app shopping experiences, directly from their feeds on social networks.On the other hand, 23 % of interviewees want to buy second -hand clothes online and 24 % want to participate in better consumption by returning their clothes via an online sales site or via social networks.

3.Music and dance

The short video format offers a new way of discovering music, as well as an innovative musical experience.Thus, 70 % of adolescents expect to discover new sounds and artists via social networks in 2022.Among them, 1 in 3 also wishes to see more dance challenges.

4.Celebrities and creators

For 83 % of interviewees, content creators have as much influence as influencers, or even more.Among them, 4 out of 5 affirm that online celebrities and on social networks have more influence in culture than so -called "traditional" celebrities, such as actors.

5.Career and education

More than ever, the Z generation re -evaluates education and their career objectives.90 % of interviewees think that the best education comes from real experiences in the world, pointing to the high cost implied by the continuation of studies.Aware of the harmful character that means being defined or consumed by his work, 68 % say that "work is what I have to do" but "not the most important thing in my life".While 71 % of interviewees agree with the affirmation "I prefer a work that makes sense, even if it means a lower salary".

6.Food

In 2022, young adults will continue to experiment with complex recipes and other innovative techniques in their kitchen.Over 1 in 4 of them want to try to prepare their bread or test exotic recipes.While millennials (1 in 6) show a growing interest in molecular gastronomy.

7.Welfare

Generation Z attaches particular importance to mental health.Young adults wish to make life choices according to the impact that it will have on their emotional health.In 2022, this implies for 1 in 3 to continue to indulge in activities that preserve their mental health, such as guided meditation.While 1 in 4 young adults are planning to get to creative activities such as drawing, painting or music.For the coming year, respondents would like to adopt a holistic approach to well-being, be held to treat all aspects of their lives.This involves physical exercises, mainly at home, exploring their creativity, and a care taken at their place of life.

8.Gaming

In 2022, the interest in gaming will strengthen.For young adults, video games represent both a social platform at the same time as a way to escape.Thus, 3 out of 10 want to watch others play video games through Livestreams.1 in 5 adolescents also wishes to see new experiences popularize in 2022 as virtual reality concerts.

9.Mees

Faced with the uncertainty in which the current period plunges, young adults bet on the field of expression that the same represents today.The irony and the honesty that the creation of the same also makes it a salient reflection of today's society.As such, 29 % of interviewees expect to be faced with more absurd humor in 2022.

10.Social justice

According to the report, many young people from generation Z show a strong online commitment, which sometimes results in social actions.52 % of interviewees say they follow on social networks focused on social justice and which inform on activism.A commitment that will continue to grow in 2022, while 37 % of interviewees plan to give part of their savings to causes that are close to their hearts.
