Marilyn Feltz, the Maisons de Mode stylist who also does vintage
Nestled in one of the cells of the Vestiaire, next to the Roubaix swimming pool, Marilyn and Alexis' shop is full of made in France creations whose quality and originality are already well known. But since the fall of 2020, the two fashion enthusiasts have a new department dedicated to second-hand and vintage with beautiful nuggets at affordable prices.
Difficult to describe in a single word the style of Marilyn's creations: "A mix between rock, very glam Hollywood with a Berlin side of odds and ends?" Finally, a summary of the life of the young Frenchwoman in the world of self-taught fashion. A former rock critic for magazines, she spent several years in Los Angeles before meeting Alexis, her husband, a former musician, in Berlin.
When she decided six years ago to go into fashion design, it was in Paris that she designed her models and started patronage. "I didn't go to school, Alexis either. We got into it because we are passionate about clothes and dressing people just became a new passion.” Their watchwords: beautiful fabrics, cuts made for everyday morphologies, beautiful clothes that live and a clothing workshop based in France.
From Paris to Roubaix
After a first workshop and a boutique in Paris, they arrived in Roubaix a year and a half ago between the two confinements of 2020. Alexis, who is from the North, had heard of Maisons de Mode and what they did for young designers. And if Marilyn had never set foot in Roubaix before, her first encounter with the city with a great textile past happened naturally: “We came to hold a small stand during the 2019 Fashion Market, remembers -She. We immediately felt that people here had the same clothing and material culture as us.” And she talks about her clients as well as the Roubaix grandpas who sell beautiful fabric a few streets away and who come to chat about the quality of those she has chosen for such and such a creation.

What she prefers above all are noble materials such as jacquards and silks from Lyon, guipures and stripes from Cambrésis. "Be careful, I don't design clothes that have to stay in closets: I want all-terrain clothes that are therefore resistant and comfortable," says Marilyn. Count between 80€ and 200€ for a room at home. She also creates cocktail dresses from 250€ and she also makes some wedding dresses. Everything is made a stone's throw from the boutique, in the Maisons de mode workshop, on the Roussel site.
Vintage collection
It's a budget but for an original creation made in France, you can't ask for fast fashion prices. On the other hand, Marilyn and Alexis have released new clothes racks in their shop that could make you and your wallet look good. Above, we find a whole gaggle of vintage clothes from their own personal collection.
“When we moved, we realized that we had a lot, a lot, a lot of clothes, smiles Alexis. We are compulsive collectors and we have amassed a lot during our travels. For them, it is time for these little nuggets to go see the country again. You will find beautiful dresses and skirts from the 40's to 60's for the most part. There are all sizes since the couple did not necessarily buy to wear but because the piece was beautiful. You can also find perfectos and pieces from their own old collections or even prototypes.
Price levels, of course, are softer, with pieces starting at €15 and which can go up depending on their rarity. Whatever happens, we advise you to go for a little walk around the Cloakroom if you have the opportunity. Especially since it's the sales right now and at Marilyn and Alexis, there's between 30 and 60% off their capsule collection of the moment. We say that, we say nothing.
The Marilyn Feltz boutique also has a great website and an Insta account if you want to do some virtual window shopping while waiting to go to the Vestiaire Maisons de Mode. The latter is located at 27, rue de l'Espérance in Roubaix, right next to the swimming pool. The shop is open Wednesday to Saturday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the first Sunday of each month.
