4 things your chest reveals about your health
Your chest is getting bigger
The breasts are mostly made up of fat cells, in addition to glandular tissue. That's why your breasts also get bigger when you gain weight. But it can also get bigger because of your birth control pill or during hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle. The whole balance of breast tissue is dependent on hormones. Since your breasts are particularly sensitive to estrogen-progesterol variations, they can grow in size depending on the day of the cycle. To avoid compressing them, do not hesitate to buy a bra of a larger size for these days.
Your chest is getting thinner
Same reason as before: since your breasts are made up of fat cells, it makes sense that they lose volume when you embark on a weight loss diet. But it may also be a sign that your estrogen levels are falling, which is the case when you stop the pill or when you are in pre-menopause.
On the other hand, if none of these reasons apply to you and your breasts are shrinking, ask your doctor to check whether you have polycystic ovary syndrome. This disease results in the development of multiple cysts in the ovaries but also in hyper-androgenism, that is to say an overflow of male hormones. More lightly, it may also be a sign that you are consuming too much coffee. A British study has shown that drinking at least three cups of coffee a day decreases breast size.
You have a nipple discharge
The first thing you think of in this case is "I have breast cancer". It is true that fluid leaking from one or both nipples can be a sign of a tumour. To reassure you, go see your doctor without delay because nipple discharge can also be due to a disorder of the thyroid or pituitary gland, or to the side effects of certain medications such as antidepressants or antihypertensives.

A discharge from the nipple is of no consequence most of the time but it still requires consultation, especially if there are traces of blood, whether it occurs on a single breast or is accompanied by changes in the skin.
You have a lump in your breast
During your menstrual cycle, your breasts may become lumpy or lumpy: Hormonal changes cause benign fluid-filled cysts to form. These fibrocystic changes are part of the normal architecture of the breast. The small bumps that may appear on the sides of the chest under the armpits or near the nipples, sometimes sensitive or even painful, especially in the pre-menstrual period are not a cause for concern, especially if they are symmetrical.
This small bump can also be an adenofibroma, a benign breast tumor, which does not pose a risk of cancer.
And when you have a falling chest...
The shape of your chest is programmed into your DNA, but its appearance also evolves according to your personal history, and in particular over the course of pregnancies and breastfeeding. In addition, as we age, the skin loses its elasticity, the ligaments relax and the structure of the connective tissues is less firm. The breasts become less bulging to take on the appearance of drops.
To avoid this, do regular gym moves (especially push-ups) to build the pectoral muscles that will support the chest. But also, avoid playing yo-yo with your weight by multiplying the diet phases. Finally, if you practice a sporting activity, opt for a special sports bra, brassiere style, even if you have a small chest.
