Cherbourg: to avoid wasting clothes, an association and a business unite

On the one hand, a solidarity thrift store, Culture Second, which refurbishes old clothes. On the other, an association, Fil & Terre, which, through its second-hand product stores, helps job seekers by offering them vocational training.

Two ideas from the heads of two Cherbourgeois, Julie Viger and Matthieu Giovannone. All this mixture gives birth to a collaboration which brings a new impetus of solidarity.

For the director of Fil & Earth, Matthieu Giovannone, the benefit is double. “This type of action, in addition to countering waste, allows my employees to acquire skills and thus facilitate their integration into a company. »

Stable employment

Indeed, the association takes the time to train its staff, so that they can subsequently access stable employment. The return-to-work rate concerns 50% of store employees.

Fil & Terre recently came to pick up several bags full of clothes, which will soon be on the shelves of various stores in the Cotentin. This action hopes to be only the beginning of many others, since the two stores want it to be permanent. “With my end of stock, I want to be able to still donate and avoid wasting clothes as much as possible. Too many clothes are sleeping in storage and just waiting to be worn. »

Through this collaboration, the two managers want to prove that operations between an association and a company are possible. “Solidarity exists, and not only in associations. »
