Liver attack: causes, what to eat?
"Liver attack: causes, what to eat?"
Do you have nausea, stomach ache, stomach pain since you ate too much? "Liver attack", to be distinguished from gastroenteritis, can be relieved by choosing the right foods.
Definition
"To begin with, the disorders to which the term 'liver attack' is commonly attributed have nothing to do with the liver, but rather with the stomach" explains Dr Frédéric Cordet, hepato-gastroenterologist in Bordeaux and secretary General of the National Syndicate of Digestive System Doctors (Synmad). In fact, these are generally symptoms "consecutive to a filling of the stomach more important than usual, he continues, because we ate more and especially, foods that slow down gastric emptying, such as alcohol, fatty products, dishes with sauce, etc.
Differentiate between liver attack and gastroenteritis
Be careful not to confuse liver attack with gastroenteritis. If it can give almost the same symptoms, the latter is "a viral infection or microbial food poisoning which will occur a little away from a meal not necessarily excessive, sometimes accompanied by fever and muscle pain and which will last from 24 to 48 hours". But both liver crisis and gastroenteritis generally experience a favorable evolution, most often spontaneously.

Duration of a liver attack
After a liver attack caused by an overly rich meal, it is advisable to go on a diet and drink water. In general, the symptoms fade quickly and after 24 hours, the liver attack is over.
Symptoms
Classically, the symptoms associated with a liver attack include "nausea or even vomiting, heaviness or even pain in the epigastric region ("pit of the stomach"), acid reflux, even headaches or feelings of discomfort related to a significant distension of the stomach", enumerates Dr Cordet. Although not dangerous, these symptoms can however be painful and embarrassing.
Causes
Often linked to an excessive consumption of sugar (like chocolate!), the liver attack is more generally caused by the intake of a meal that is too copious and too rich, associated with an excessive consumption of alcohol. It is therefore not surprising that many liver attacks occur during the holidays, especially during family Christmas meals.
Treatments
No need to consult a doctor or take medication in case of liver attack. All it takes is a little patience. "The evolution will be spontaneously favorable simply with a water diet", recommends Dr. Cordet. Drinking water, herbal teas or broths seems to be the best (and only) remedy.

What to eat after a liver attack?
After a liver attack, avoid eating fatty and rich foods again. Instead, consider enjoying vegetables and fruits, protein, and whole-grain foods. In addition, take the time to eat more slowly, peacefully and without stress. Eating too quickly does not give the stomach enough time to fill up and leads to overeating.
