Want to renew your wardrobe without breaking the bank? What if you exchanged the clothes you no longer wear for other clothes? If you are tempted by the idea, then meet on Saturday September 18, 2021 aboard the Magic Bus barge, in Lille. It is indeed in this friendly third place that the new edition of Adopte une Fripe will take place.

Promote circular fashion and avoid waste

As a reminder, Adopte une Fripe is a monthly event born in June 2019 in Armentières. It allows individuals to come together to exchange the clothes that are sleeping in their closets. The goal: to raise awareness about the waste of clothing, promote circular fashion and more responsible consumption. Because, after having worked 15 years in the fashion industry, an experience that ended up disgusting him, Jean-François, creator of Adopte une Fripe, knows what he is talking about.

After a long break due to the Covid crisis, the event made its big comeback last July at the Voisinerie de Wazemmes. For the start of the school year, Adopte une Fripe offers a new barter of clothes but in a different and surprising place: on board the Magic Bus barge. This time, admission will be free. “The proceeds from the starters will go to the Citizen Café for their action in support of the Afghans. The goal is to serve a good deed so you don't have to put your hands in your pockets,” announces Jean-François.

Apart from these few new features, the principle of Adopt a second-hand clothes remains the same. Participants can come with clothes to donate, to exchange, or even empty-handed. Then, everyone presents the item(s) they brought back and those interested just have to pick it up. At the end of the barter, the clothes that have not found a buyer will be entrusted to the Oxfam thrift store. As for the clothes at the end of their life, they will be recovered by Récoupettes, a Lille workshop specializing in upcycling.

Practical information: Adopt a second-hand clothes, Saturday September 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Aboard the Magic Bus barge, moored at the entrance to the Citadel of Lille. Compulsory health pass. For more info, visit the event's Facebook page.
