Motherhood, how does it go? | Health Magazine

Mothering is back in force. This alternative education rehabilitates the natural and instinctive capacity of the mother to take care of her baby, while respecting ecological principles. Here are the highlights.

A mom adept at mothering does not plan to feed her baby other than at the breast. Among the arguments stated to motivate their choice, they argue that breast milk is: “better for health”, “natural”, “practical, easy, economical”, “offers a privileged relationship between mother and baby”.

Indeed, breastfeeding your baby provides him with many antibodies for real immunity against viruses and bacteria. This milk is the most adapted to the growth, to the needs of the baby.

For the mother, it helps to live better after childbirth (fewer baby blues, less risk of hemorrhage thanks to uterine contractions, a faster return to the old silhouette).

At least six months of breastfeeding

As for the duration of breastfeeding, it should be as long as possible. The World Health Organization recommends six months exclusive and up to two years in diversification.

This is why mothering promotes shared sleep (or “co-sleeping”): sharing the bedroom or even the marital bed which allows breastfeeding on demand and the strengthening of the emotional bond with the parents.

Sexuality should not be a problem. Just use your imagination. Cuddles don't have to happen all the time at night in a bed...

Mothering is carrying your baby

We see more and more parents adopting the technique of carrying in a sling. It consists of carrying your child close to you thanks to a large fabric tied around the waist. This is the mode most popular with mothering families. It is also a good way to meet the needs of warmth, contact and meals on demand.

A solution to soothe your baby

Several studies have shown that carrying in a sling reduces crying time. It is a solution envisaged to console his child, to appease him. It strengthens the mother-child bond and improves psychomotor development. You can also opt for a physiological baby carrier, which is easier to use.

Mothering is using washable diapers to preserve the environment

Repeated changes, six to eight times a day for the first few months, can damage your baby's fragile skin. For maternity mothers, washable diapers are therefore a more advantageous solution because they cause less irritation (diaper rash) and are less expensive than disposable diapers.

There is also less risk of leakage or overflow, because the diaper is preferably made of natural materials (hemp, bamboo), an absorbent lining (disposable or washable) and waterproof pants are added. We also find that this type of change promotes faster toilet training. Indeed, disposable diapers contain many chemicals intended to give the child the feeling of being dry.

If we go further, we know that disposable diapers are massive waste (500 kilos per child aged 0 to 2 years) which take no less than 500 years to degrade. Suffice to say that this is not at all part of the ecological approach of a 100% natural mother.

Mothering is preferring “natural” clothing for your baby

To dress her baby, any mother who loves mothering will opt for products from agriculture that is more respectful of the environment.

To achieve a finished product, the industry that manufactures the garment uses as few chemicals as possible. Wool, silk, hemp, linen allow the skin to breathe better and reduce the risk of allergies, unlike nylon, industrial cotton.

You will find many labels certifying the ecological quality of the clothes you buy for your baby. Among them: RvA-KbA, Eko…

Mothering is caring for your child with alternative medicine

Homeopathy, essential oils, osteopathy… Alternative medicine is used in infants as an alternative or in addition to traditional medicine. Teething, colic, digestion problems, colds, constipation or even allergic reactions can be treated with more natural methods that are more respectful of the immune system. Indeed, antibiotics do not promote the production of antibodies by “attacking” the still permeable body of the child.

Essentially for small daily concerns

We see that this enthusiasm is especially valid for treating the little “bobos” of everyday life. It is therefore not a question of refusing traditional medicine outright, but of supplanting it when possible.
