Marie Kondo on Netflix: 15 new tips from the storage fairy to adopt!
After the success of her books and her show "The Art of Tidying Up", Marie Kondo returns with the show "Sparking Joy" or "the spark of joy", in French. This is indeed the guiding principle of his method: let joy guide his choices when sorting his belongings. Here are a few points of his methodology if you too want to undertake a large storage in your home... and your life!
1. Adopt a routine to punctuate your day
Every morning, to start the day well, Marie Kondo advises to open the windows to release negative energies and to use the healing sounds of a tuning fork to have a clear mind. She then burns incense to regulate her energy and that of the hearth.
2. List things to do
To encourage good communication in the couple, she recommends writing down the things to be done for the family and deciding whether the tasks are necessary or not. Then, these are allocated according to the aptitudes of each one. This visualizes everyone's issues and roles and builds the will to move forward as a happy family.
3. Organize your schedule
After having listed the activities of the day, we make a schedule to carry them out by blocking time for sources of joy (playing with your child, drinking tea...). It helps to return to work feeling happy and to give more time to those pleasant moments.
4. Greet the place to be tidied up
Marie Kondo always begins by taking the time to greet, in silence and closing her eyes, the place she is going to tidy up and introduce herself to it. She imagines him as she wants him to be to bring joy to people.
5. Take out all the objects to be sorted
Then, we take out what was stored and that we want to sort. We place the whole in a place so as to see it well to see the quantity of things accumulated.
6. Sort by touching objects
Sorting consists of knowing what you want to keep, give away or sell. For this, we take each object in our hands and we ask ourselves if it gives us joy. Marie Kondo says that “the heart and the body have the answer”. If the answer is “yes” then we keep it. Otherwise, we part with it with gratitude by saying “thank you”. Same principle with clothes, papers (of course we keep those that are important). We reserve the sorting of objects of sentimental value for the end. They will be kept according to the same principle. We can, for example, photograph the large manual works of the children to keep a trace of them.
7. Remove labels
When you sort your things, especially your clothes, you remove the price tags that would have remained on them. It's a way of showing that we are committed to wearing them.
8. Sort by category, materials, color
If the objects are grouped in related piles (all the scissors together, the pants together, the electronic devices together...), this simplifies their storage. If possible, especially in dressing rooms or wardrobes, each category of clothing is grouped by material and color. We put the dark colors on the left, the light ones on the right. We store the shoes according to their style, it harmonizes the general appearance and brings more joy.
9. Give everything a fixed place
There is a place for each category of objects. If done well, an object only needs to be put away once. Everyone knows where to put things and saves time.
Put boxes in the drawers: We take several small ones to store by category in the drawers. This avoids mixing, for example, the paperclips with the tubes of glue.
10. Store upright
In general, everything should be stored vertically in simple and practical containers. This makes it possible to optimize the space and to see at a glance all the papers, objects, clothes...
11. Fold clothes with love
You fold your sweaters, T-shirts by gently folding the sleeves towards the center, you store the hood inside then you fold the garment in three in the height. It becomes a rectangle that you store vertically in your drawer.
12. Put labels
If necessary, the category of objects stored there is written on the containers.
13. Remove packaging
We remove superfluous plastic or cardboard packaging to be able to use what we need directly.
14. Decorate with inspirational objects
Each room should keep objects that bring joy, that are inspiring, motivating. In his office, we do the same, then the work will bring more joy and meaning.
15. Create a rejuvenating place
To increase the pleasure of being at home, we create a space where we will like to spend time to relax. It can be a small table, a comfortable armchair or an entire room filled with objects that bring joy: candles, flowers, crystals...
