  • How to make a green wall?

The realization of a green wall outside or inside your house is a complex project for which many elements are to be taken into consideration. If you lack the experience necessary to carry out the project yourself, there are green wall technologies that are designed for simple implementation within the reach of beginners in vertical gardening. You can always consult a landscaper for professional advice tailored to your personal project. Whatever you choose as a solution, the principle of the green wall is almost the same. Discover below one of the simplest and least expensive techniques to perform.

Determine the location of the green wall

You can create your green wall on any surface stable enough to attach your support to (wall, palisade, fence, facade, etc.). Do you have an ugly wall ruining your garden? Dressing it with vegetation guarantees you a harmonious and aesthetic result. If you have already chosen the plants that will make up the vertical garden, you must also think about the most favorable location for their growth.

    Build the supporting structure

The basic structure of the green wall is composed of a support fixed to the wall, a plastic film and a horticultural felt which will act as a substrate for retaining humidity. We advise you to assemble the entire installation before fixing it to the wall. You can make the frame using boards, cleats or PVC tubes. If you decide to use a wooden structure, remember to ensure good ventilation of the support. Install horticultural lamps.

Attach the plastic sheet to the panel

In addition to protecting the wall from moisture, it will act as a support for horticultural felt.

    Laying the horticultural tablecloth layer

The horticultural tablecloth replaces the living substrate in the classic vertical garden which serves as a planting medium. You will need at least two coats of aquanappe.

    Installation of automatic irrigation system

To ensure regular watering of plants, the installation of an irrigation system is essential. You can set up a drip system with a watering timer that allows you to adapt the watering according to your needs.

    Installation of plants

Make horizontal incisions in the second layer of the aquanappe to insert the plants. Staple the layer of aquanappe to the plastic sheeting on the backing so as to create pockets of felt. Install the assembly on the wall using the metal profiles.

The green wall below was made from a recovered pallet and a planting tarp. First prepare the palette by sanding the surface to remove any rough spots. Place it flat, the face of the future green wall down. Cover the sides of the planting sheet pallet and staple it. You can also staple a layer of horticultural felt. Turn the pallet over, make an opening in the bag to fill it with potting soil. Make incisions between the boards of the pallet to insert the plants.
