21% of French people willing to invest in their homes
The Covid-19 crisis changed the relationship of the French to their homes. A study by the CSA Institute of Studies on behalf of HomeServe confirms their desire to improve their living environment quickly.
The survey institute carried out a comparative study in April 2020 compared to a first study carried out in December 2019. This before / after survey makes it possible to analyse how the French project themselves today and tomorrow in their homes.
The dream of becoming a homeowner is still the majority and has not been destabilized: it is always a goal of life. Also, to remain confined to a dwelling in which one feels well made more than ever, in fear of a new health crisis. 83% January wave VS 84% April wave.
The period of confinement made 19% of the French want to move. More than ever, the outside world remains the top priority for 85 per cent of them. They need space or 68% of them and 55% want to go green. Finally, 41% want to be close to their families.
More teleworking at home
24% of respondents now telework every day or almost every day, up to 61% for managers (VS 17% in the first survey). Only 9% of them did so at such a high frequency prior to confinement, an increase of 15 points!
Thus, telecommuting is practised globally at least once a week by almost a third of the French population, 33%, compared with 20% before confinement, recording a 13 percentage point jump. This means having more space in the dwelling to adjust the new work plans.
Investment in the home preferred to investment in other leisure activities
Tomorrow, almost all French people (94%) are being invested just as much (73%) or even more (21%) in expenditure items related to the home (fit-up, maintenance, works), to the detriment of other items (leisure, outings, etc.).
Of the 21% of French people who want to invest more, a third (33%) plan to increase their budget for the house between 150 and 299 euros per month, 57% less than 150 euros per month.
After the confinement, a little more than half of the French (54%) do not see themselves spending more time at home in the future, probably to regain a certain taste of freedom. However, 46% of French people want to take advantage of their accommodation even more!
Major works planned for the second half of 2020
The housing becomes a place that fits into a daily life more than just a place of passage, redesigning the triptych metro job dodo. Confinement has also prompted the French to carry out works and improvements for 24% of them, thus completely reappropriating their place of residence.
For example, almost one in two Frenchmen (47%) are planning work for the second half of 2020, of which 15% are major works. For 10% of the French, containment was a trigger for these construction projects. This is more the case for couples with children (15%), those who have changed places of confinement (26%) and those living in single homes (27%).
