If the arrival of a newborn in a home is synonymous with happiness, this event upsets the daily life of young parents as well as their bank account.According to a study (1) carried out with 600 parents of children aged 0 to 36 months by Ipsos for the E Observatory.Leclerc of new consumptions, the budget devoted to a toddler amounts to an average of € 490 per month.

At 252 € on average per month, baby's childcare costs (nanny, crèche, etc.) represent the first expense post.Then come food (€ 83), equipment such as stroller or bed (€ 54), clothes (€ 51) and hygiene and well-being products (€ 51).

A third of parents have underestimated the budget to be expected

To prepare for it, 64 % of the parents interviewed say they took special measures before the birth of their child.They unlocked their savings or borrowed.But even trying to anticipate, 35 % consider that they had underestimated the necessary budget.Expenses that require "consumption arbitrations and an adjustment of the lifestyle", underlines the study.73 % of respondents reduce their outings (restaurants, cinema, evenings, etc.), 59 % their leisure and 45 % their weekends or travel.

To save, 68 % look for products on promotion, 53 % deprive themselves of too expensive products and 47 % go more to stores offering cheaper products.
