Christmas: How much are the parents spending for their children's gifts?
What budget for Christmas gifts?
In 2018, parents had planned an average budget of 143.05 euros per child to offer her Christmas gifts. This year, the sum is a little lower, but remains important: families plan to spend an average of 133.88 euros per child.
How many Christmas gifts for children?
The number of Christmas gifts received per child will be between five and nine, including between one and three offered by the parents. But this figure changes according to age: those of 3 years will discover more than eleven under the tree, on average, while their elders of 13 years will have "only" 6.Perhaps because the older ones often ask for more expensive presents!
What gifts do children want to find under the tree?
63% of children, mostly under 10, write the traditional letter to Santa Claus to formulate their wishes. This was carried out thanks to toy catalogs in 83% of cases, television advertisements in 58% of cases, and according to friends of 39% of situations. The opinion of the Youtubers seems to gain weight too, since 28% of children were inspired by the products they were talking about.
Children and parents do not always agree on what they would like to see under the tree. The only gifts on which they share the same opinion are the board games, which arrive at first place in the ranking for 62% of parents and 47% of children.Adults then place the clothes, concert places, CDS, etc., in second place (50%), then construction games (40%), mobility games (38%) and, finally high products-Tech.For children, in second position we find these famous high-tech products (47%), then high-tech games (40%), mobility games (36%), and finally creative leisure and construction games, each acclaimed by 31% of them.
If parents do not always share their children's opinion on gifts, they will still respect their list as much as possible. Thus, although they place high-tech products at the bottom of their preferences, there are still 67% to seriously consider the idea of offering their offspring.
A responsible Christmas
The question of the preservation of the environment is well present in the heads of the parents for the holiday season. Thus, 46% take into account the eco-responsible qualities of toys and the fact that they are manufactured or not, in France. They are also 39% to prefer wooden games rather than plastic, and 22% favor eco-responsible toys when we offer them two similar products at the same price, one of the two options being more "green" that the other. However, they will only buy these products if they correspond to the children's desires.
