But, perfectly mastering the art of teasing, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, which has managed the shopping center since 2011, had wisely revealed, as of this summer, the names of the first brands that would take up residence in these 32,000 new square meters. to reduce the impatience of the Lyonnais.

In fact, 65 new stores, restaurants and cafés bring the already plethoric supply of Part-Dieu to 305. Among them, Maje, Sandro, Claudie Pierlot, DS Café, BioBurger, or even Bentomania are in the game. But also, and above all, the highly anticipated Victoria's Secret and Abercrombie & Fitch. If the latter brand was already accessible in Lyon in the Confluence shopping center, the famous Victoria's Secret lingerie is settling for the first time in the capital of Gaul, 18 months after the opening of its first Parisian flagship.
The last renovation of the shopping center opened in 1975 dates back to 2011, with the launch of Cours Oxygène, and in 2017 Part-Dieu welcomed 35.6 million visitors for a turnover of 793.4 million euros. Figures that should greatly increase with the inauguration of the new space.

An investment of 310 million euros
The extension of the shopping center does not only concern shops and restaurants: on the program, in addition to 65 new commercial units, a 7,000 m² green roof terrace, the extension of the UGC cinema which will increase from 14 to 18 screens for a total of 3000 places, the enlargement of the Carrefour store, but also a new facade, a monumental staircase, and a better connection between the shopping center, the library, the station and the urban space for this new place inspired by the Lyon quays.
Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield called upon the Dutch architecture and urban planning agency MVRDV – also present in Shanghai and Paris – to design the extension of the shopping center. The project represents a budget of 310 million euros, and the work was divided into 13 phases over 36 months, generating 1,260 jobs in total.
Raising its retail area from 127,300 to 159,300 m², the expansion of Part-Dieu should contribute to giving a new lease of life to the entire district, whose renovation work has not made traffic easier in recent years! But there is no doubt that the result, an alliance of shopping, leisure and culture, should appeal to the people of Lyon.
