The essentials of a modern master bedroom
Parents' days are often exhausting. Between professional life and the children to manage, in other words, the days are busy. We generally appreciate being in the quiet evening in the parental bedroom. This room must therefore be pleasant, relaxing, a haven of peace. But how to arrange a modern master bedroom, so that it is both aesthetic and functional? Here are some leads…
The bed, the centerpiece of the master bedroom
If in a living room the centerpiece is the sofa, in a bedroom it is unquestionably the bed! Modern bedrooms are generally uncluttered, and do without a bed frame, going straight to the point: a mattress and a box spring. This also helps to optimize space.
The mattress is of course the most important element, because it must be comfortable, and with suitable dimensions. In this area, the technologies used for the structure of mattresses have evolved a lot. The most comfortable mattresses are called “hybrid” because they are made up of both pocket springs and a layer of memory foam. A design also acclaimed on the Emma hybrid mattress for example, which appeared as the best choice by the magazine Que Choisir at the beginning of the year. Comfort is the key word for the choice of mattress, because a badly adapted mattress will have an impact on your sleep, back pain, rest, etc.
Besides the design of the mattress, there remains the question of size. King Size beds are popular today, for their large space, perfect for family cuddles on Sunday mornings :) Be careful though: these mattresses are very bulky and heavy, a real constraint when you have to move, or simply back to the summer season… The other option is to opt for two 90cm mattresses: side by side, they will measure the same size as a King Size, but will be easier to handle. With a single fitted sheet covering both and a large, cozy duvet, the effect will be the same. With even a small improvement: if your companion moves a lot at night, the movements will affect your mattress less ;-)
This type of mattress, whether one-piece or two-piece, usually goes on a two-piece box spring no matter what. But the box spring can for example be replaced by furniture underneath, in order to have storage space (duvet and out of season clothes for example). Be careful, however, to take the height into account: a King Size mattress can quickly be 30cm thick. The furniture used below should therefore not be too high, so as not to have to “climb” your bed every evening.
Who says no bed frame, says no headboard. However, the headboard is an important decorative element. Better, it can be functional. We therefore find headboards sold alone, simply padded, or made up of real storage. But one concept particularly appealed to us: that of Noctys Deco. Here, the headboard is made of perforated wooden panels, which can receive various accessories: lighting for reading, shelf for the bedside table, hooks, etc. It is thus possible to decorate and create your own headboard, with the functions you want.
The same concept can be achieved with the famous Skadis painting from Ikea (which we recently did for our own bedroom). Moreover, this type of panel, if it is not used at the head of the bed, can find its place in many places in the bedroom, to store accessories and jewelery for the day, for example, the bathroom corner bath, etc. On the Thingiverse site, there are many accessories to be printed in 3D for this type of painting, if the official accessories do not meet the need :)
The dressing room
The dressing room is of course the other important element of the bedroom. If you do not have a dedicated dressing room in another room, you will indeed have to be able to store all the clothes and accessories of Mrs.... and Mr. :) A dressing room made up of many shelves and wardrobes, in L, in U , or in I will optimize storage in the room. Opt for sliding doors if possible, to easily access the interior while maximizing storage space. Finally, do not neglect the interior lighting, in order to navigate more easily when looking for the right outfit to put on in the morning.
The bathroom
If the size of the room allows it, a water point in a parental suite is always very practical: sink, shower, toilet. It can be simply via direct access to the bathroom, located in another room, if the surface of the room does not allow it. In the bedroom, it is possible to partition this part in order to create several sleeping / storage / washing areas, without complicated work.
A make-up area can also be set up for the lady, in a bright place in the room. A dressing table can also be a design element of the bedroom.
Lighting
Lighting is a decorative element in its own right. LED lighting makes it possible to create very beautiful atmospheres, bright, or subdued, white, or colored, according to your desires. In this area we have already spoken several times about Philips Hue connected lights. Lighting is no longer limited here to the ceiling light: it is possible to have an LED strip under the chest of drawers or behind the headboard, a bedside lamp capable of imitating the sunrise for a more natural awakening, or even a backlight behind the TV screen, which lights up to the rhythm of the image, to increase immersion in your films and series.
The wired switches and remote controls are also very useful for controlling the lighting from your headboard, without any work to do. No need to pull rocks / scissors whoever will have to get up to turn off the light!
The connected side opens up many possibilities: program a sunrise alarm clock directly by setting your alarm clock on your smartphone, or even create a romantic atmosphere with a simple touch :)
Decoration
In a bedroom, it is best to opt for soft, soothing colors: white, beige, taupe, almond green, water green, pastel blue, etc. Ideally two colors maximum. If dark colors give a luxurious side, natural colors and materials are popular today for their soothing properties. The industrial style, with metal, and gray, brown, or black colors, is also very popular.
Of course, the most important thing is not to copy a style seen in a brochure, but to adopt a style that suits you. Ethnic, vintage, industrial, natural, country chic, etc. it's not the fashion that counts, but that this cocoon soothes you and allows you to spend pleasant nights.
