The images are chilling. Of the wooden building, only a few portions of stone walls remain. A house of approximately 150 m2 on the ground, with one floor, was completely ravaged by the flames, Saturday January 22, 2022, chemin de Métairie Neuve, in Castres (Tarn).

He breaks down the door to save his animals from the flames

If Malcolm's four children were fortunately not present in the house at the time of the incident, their animals were still there. interior… “When we arrived in front of the house on fire, we immediately thought of our dog and our cat inside, we had to break down the door to get in and save them from the flames,” says Malcolm. Poisoned by the fumes, their cat was taken care of by a veterinarian, and placed on oxygen.

Moment of solidarity

Thanks to the help of the social services of the City of Castres and the municipal police, the family and their animals are currently accommodated by the town hall in a hotel in the city center. A “provisional situation” for the couple, which testifies to a “momentum of solidarity” in the surroundings. “People give us food or clothing donations,” breathes Macolm. “Through the local association of Anysetiers, they will soon be able to have “another apartment, but it can only be on a temporary basis, because we have four children and it will be too small”.

Three lances deployed by firefighters

The fire in this “wooden chalet style” house, in Malcolm’s words, required a large rescue device on Saturday. Called to circumscribe the "widespread fire of a dwelling house", the Tarn fire soldiers had used no less than three variable-speed lances. But on arrival, despite the vast resources deployed, the damage was irreparable.
